Two fact I've learned:
1) All the produce stands are, in fact, Bolivian. A writer I know here states confidently that every produce man is of Bolivia, no matter where the fruteria is located.
2) The Mexican food is, as a rule, terrible. America, the great Melting Pot or Tossed Salad or whatever it is, takes for granted the benefits of so many disparate culinary styles. One can enjoy decent food from any region of the globe in any major American city. But here, enjoy the steaks, pasta, and empanadas, and Shut Your Mouth. I hate the word "foodie," but maybe I am one. The culinary limitations here are frustrating.
Post-post-script: J. made pasta carbonara for lunch. It was delicious.
Post-post-post-etc.: There is a restaurant somewhere in this city that combines Japanese sushi and Peruvian ceviche. I need to find this.
