The Menu

Through a combination of boredom and a lack of standard American ingredients, Jess and I have been forced to learn new recipes, new foods, and new ways of making old favorites.  Canned beans, the few types you can get, are expensive.  So is tomato sauce.  Eggnog and teriyaki sauce don't exist.  We've had to be culinarily creative, and we're returning to the States with hugely broadened food repertoires.

An imperfect list of new or improved foods:

  • Chinese spring rolls
  • Bread-and-apple stuffing
  • Uruguayan turkey chivito
  • Tuna salad with avocado and cheese
  • Tacos (without access to chili powder, taco seasoning, or decent tortillas)
  • Taco pizza
  • Strawberry French toast
  • Steak and cheese empanadas
  • Spicy baked mac-and-cheese
  • Spaghetti sauce from fresh tomatoes
  • Rosemary and garlic meatballs
  • Roasted vegetable pasta primavera
  • Potato curry samosas
  • Pineapple-teriyaki stir-fry
  • Pineapple and prosciutto pizza
  • Pear, blue cheese, caramelized onion empanadas
  • Lentil soup
  • Potato chips
  • Lentil burgers with tzatziki sauce
  • Curry French fries
  • Garbanzo burgers with homemade curry sauce
  • Fried rice with cabbage, carrot, and leeks
  • Fresh eggnog
  • Dry beans
  • Cinnamon-apple empanadas
  • Choripan on the grill
  • Chicken soup
  • Blue cheese burgers with guacamole
  • Black bean burgers with Sriracha mayo
  • Argentine carne asado
  • Amanda’s cole slaw
  • Fettuccine carbonara
  • Pasta Bolognese
