The landlord for the place with the old woman had already sent us a contract, and we were set to move into that apartment in 2 days. But Jess kept looking on craigslist for other options, found a place advertising single rooms in San Telmo, an historic/bohemian neighborhood south of downtown, for US$270. What they meant was, $370, but it turned out rooms could be shared---and that Luna is not a problem. We've got 2 single cots in a big room in a big house with 2 wide terraces and a rooftop asada (grill). Ho.Ly.Shit. It's run by three Argentine sisters ages 20-33 (or whatever) as a sort of mini-hostel, and we'll be sharing the place with another American, somebody from France, somebody from Peru, and maybe another American. I couldn't be happier---it's the cheapest and best place we've seen.
On Buller Pub: Skip it.
The menu includes 6 homemade brews: Light Lager, Hefewiezen, Honey Beer, Oktoberfest, IPA, and Dry Stout. Light lager is standard---privatized Budweiser. I had high hopes for the hefeweizen---there have been no wheat options anywhere else I've been---but this beer is an impostor. It has that "banana" aftertaste without any of the other hefe attributes. The Oktoberfest was extremely light but pleasant to drink. The stout was similar to Antares' cream stout---smooth, light, decent. Th IPA was the best, but it too was an impostor---its hops flavor was barely half-strength of a standard American pale ale.
Still, no complaints. It was better beer than the corner chino carries, and we've got a sweet place to crash for a couple of months. What else does one need? (A: a job)
